A man was taken to a major trauma centre by road as a priority after a serious road traffic collision on Camberwell New Road in Camberwell on Tuesday, September 22. London's Air Ambulance was dispatched to the scene, and a large police cordon remained in place for hours as investigations continued.
Collision on Camberwell New Road
The collision occurred at approximately 2.25pm on Tuesday, September 22. Photographs taken at the scene show a substantial Metropolitan Police cordon extending from Camberwell New Road to John Ruskin Street, with traffic disrupted in the area. Police officers placed yellow cones at various points along the road while conducting their investigation.
Within the cordon, a scaffolding truck and a grey car were left at the scene. It remains unclear whether these vehicles were involved in the collision.
Emergency response and hospital transfer
London Ambulance Service confirmed they were called at 2.27pm on Tuesday, September 22 to reports of a road traffic collision on Camberwell New Road. A spokesperson for the service said: “We sent resources to the scene including an ambulance crew, an advanced paramedic, an incident response officer and a paramedic in a fast response car. We also dispatched London’s Air Ambulance.”
The spokesperson added: “We treated a man at the scene and took him to a major trauma centre by road as a priority.”
Investigation and ongoing police presence
Pictures sent to MyLondon at around 7pm showed officers gathered around a police car in discussion, with several police officers positioned both within and outside the cordon. The man's condition has not been disclosed.
MyLondon contacted the Metropolitan Police for further information but was told the force will not be commenting on the incident.
