Police have cordoned off St Matthew's Churchyard in Brixton following a reported rape in the early hours of Thursday, September 17. The victim, a woman in her 40s, reported the incident at approximately 00:55am. Officers taped off the scene at the back of the church and remained there for most of the day as investigations continued.
Investigation Underway
The Metropolitan Police confirmed that specialist officers are supporting the victim/survivor. As of Thursday afternoon, no arrests had been made. A Met Police spokesperson said: "Police are investigating after a woman in her 40's reported that she had been raped in St Matthew's Churchyard, Brixton Hill, Brixton at around 00:55am on Thursday, September 17."
The spokesperson added: "A number of enquiries are ongoing and the victim/survivor is being supported by specialist officers. No arrests have been made at this stage."

Police have appealed for anyone with information to come forward. They can be contacted by calling 101 and quoting CAD 265/17SEP. Alternatively, the independent charity Crimestoppers can be reached anonymously on 0800 555 111 or via their online form.
The cordon was visible at the back of St Matthew's Church, with images showing the police tape sealing off the area. The investigation is part of ongoing efforts to address serious sexual offences in London.

Detectives are continuing their enquiries, and the scene remained active throughout Thursday. The Met Police have not released further details about the circumstances of the incident or the suspect.
