Klay Rooney, the 13-year-old son of Coleen and Wayne Rooney, has declared that his mother is 'only known because of' his father, in a newly released trailer for the family's upcoming Disney+ reality series, The Real Rooneys.
In the clip, Klay is asked directly which of his parents is the most famous. With a cheeky grin, he responds: 'My mum's only known because of my dad.' The comment comes as the family prepares to open their Cheshire mansion to cameras for the ten-episode series, which will be released on Hulu in the US.
Family Life Under the Spotlight
The show follows the couple as they balance work commitments with raising their four sons: Kai, 16, Klay, 13, Kit, 10, and Cass, eight. The trailer also shows Wayne shutting down any possibility of expanding the family further. 'No chance. I've had the snip,' he laughs when asked by a Disney producer.
The cameras were invited in just as Wayne stepped away from football management, swapping the touchline for school runs and a new punditry role with the BBC, which produced memorable TV moments during the World Cup this summer.
Coleen Reflects on Fame and Family
Elsewhere in the trailer, Coleen references her court case against Rebekah Vardy and her appearance on I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! She notes that the increased publicity has led to more opportunities, such as her collection with Primark. 'Since the court case and then the jungle, it's opened up a lot of doors,' she says.
The family's Cheshire mansion is showcased, with Coleen commenting: 'This house is everything I've dreamed of, the only problem is we've got to share it with our four boys.' She is also seen speaking to a friend about the stresses of family life: 'It's just a bit hard, juggling everything. The house is not happy.'
A New Chapter and Past Scandals
Later in the trailer, Wayne lifts Coleen into his arms as she says in voiceover: 'It feels like we're on the edge of a new life.' At the end of the clip, she adds: 'No one knows the real Rooneys. This is a side of us we've never shown before.'
The couple have been married since 2008, after starting a relationship in their teens. The years since have been occasionally rocky in the public eye, with Wayne caught up in various cheating scandals, which are alluded to in the trailer as he jokes about being in 'the dog house' from time to time.
The Real Rooneys will be available to stream on Disney+ from 24 September, with two special episodes available to stream on 1 October.
