Ruth Codd Reveals Second Leg Amputation in Emotional TikTok Update
Ruth Codd announces second leg amputation recovery

Irish actor and reality television star Ruth Codd has publicly announced she is recovering from her second below-knee amputation, sharing the significant health update with her followers via a heartfelt TikTok video.

The Emotional Announcement

The 29-year-old performer, known for her roles in Netflix horror series The Midnight Club and The Fall of the House of Usher, revealed the news from her parents' home. Codd had her first leg amputation six years ago following a teenage football injury that led to years of chronic pain and multiple surgeries.

In her characteristically candid style, Codd addressed her audience directly: "Hi guys. So, I have some good news and some bad news. Good news, we've had a full circle moment. I'm back making TikTok content in my parents' house. Bad news, I can't do it in front of that lovely blue floral wallpaper any more, due to the fact that that room is upstairs."

She continued with the difficult revelation: "I've just had my second below-knee amputation. So, unfortunately, those facilities are not available to me at the current moment in time. So a lot to unpack there for everyone involved."

Recovery Journey and Future Plans

Codd introduced her followers to her new wheelchair, which she has affectionately named "Fat Tony", joking that it was her "new whip". In the video's caption, she demonstrated her remarkable resilience with humour, writing: "No legs who dis? #paralympics2026".

The actor recently provided more context about her decision during an interview on the YouTube channel FFTV. She explained that she had already undergone surgery to remove all her toes in 2021 due to damage caused by using crutches for eight years following her initial injury.

"It's just that this foot, I was on crutches for the bones of eight years and the way I used my crutches I was always kind of on my tippy toes, so the joints in my feet were destroyed by the end," Codd shared. "It's gone past the point where they can kind of do anything about it."

Medical professionals had informed her that her foot would never improve and was making it increasingly difficult for her to work and perform effectively.

Career Success Amid Health Challenges

Despite her health struggles, Codd has built an impressive career in entertainment. She gained initial popularity on TikTok during the COVID-19 pandemic, where she posted comedy sketches and content focused on disability awareness.

Her breakthrough came with roles in major Netflix horror productions, establishing her as a rising talent in the genre. Earlier this year, she appeared in the first series of Celebrity Traitors, where she was "murdered" by the traitors in episode four after correctly identifying Jonathan Ross as a traitor during the roundtable discussion.

Looking forward, Codd detailed that her recovery process will require at least a month of healing before she can be fitted for a prosthetic limb. Her openness about her journey continues to inspire many in the disability community and beyond.
