Lisa Faulkner, the 54-year-old MasterChef winner and TV presenter, has announced she has been diagnosed with breast cancer. She revealed the news on Instagram, explaining that she underwent a major operation two weeks ago and will soon begin radiotherapy.
Diagnosis and surgery
Faulkner said she had been quiet on social media because she needed surgery for early-stage breast cancer. The cancer was detected through a routine mammogram, which she described as a decision she is deeply grateful for. She stated, “I had surgery two weeks ago, it was quite a big op but it’s all good and I’ve my results back and they’ve got everything out. So it’s all clear, and I just need now to have some radiotherapy in a few weeks.”
Gratitude for NHS screening
The actress and chef emphasized the importance of attending mammograms, which are offered by the NHS to women aged 50 to 70. She said, “I just wanted to say don’t put them off, go, because they found this and without that mammogram it wouldn’t have been picked up.” Faulkner also thanked the NHS, saying, “Thank you to our wonderful NHS and the fact we can have these mammograms and we can get treatment early.”
Career and personal life
Faulkner is known for acting roles in Holby City, The Girl Before, and EastEnders. She won Celebrity MasterChef in 2010 and later hosted Channel 4’s What’s Cooking? She co-presents John and Lisa’s Weekend Kitchen with her husband, John Torode, whom she married in 2019.
