In the July 6 episode of Emmerdale, the Dingle family received another devastating health blow. Just months after Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) was diagnosed with prostate cancer, his dog Monty may also have cancer, according to Paddy Kirk (Dominic Brunt).
Cain's cancer update
Cain was diagnosed with prostate cancer in January 2026 and underwent surgery in May. However, a recent hospital visit with Moira Dingle (Natalie J Robb) revealed a high chance the cancer has spread. Ms Rhodes explained that further treatment, such as radiotherapy, could make current side effects like impotence and incontinence permanent.
Cain initially refused radiotherapy, fearing it would harm his marriage. Moira and Liam Cavanagh (Jonny McPherson) tried to convince him that intimacy isn't everything, but Cain remained stubborn.
Kyle's struggles
Cain's health issues have strained his relationship with son Kyle Winchester (Huey Quinn). Unable to cope, Kyle began setting fires on Emmerdale Farm. Graham Foster (Andrew Scarborough) helped him find positive distractions, but Kyle relapsed after learning Joe Tate (Ned Porteous) caused his mother's death.
In today's episode, Kyle set fire to a shed at Wishing Well, trapping Monty inside. Cain and Moira rescued the dog, who was rushed to the vets. Cain realized shouting wasn't helping and asked Graham for assistance. Graham brought a new shed and involved Kyle in building it, but Cain's temper flared when he felt Graham was overstepping.
Monty's cancer scare
Later, Paddy Kirk arrived with grim news: Monty might have cancer and won't return home immediately. This latest development leaves the family reeling, with Kyle already struggling emotionally.
The episode ends with Kyle angry at Cain for driving Graham away, and the family facing yet another uncertain health battle.
