Danny Glover, the 79-year-old actor best known for his roles in Lethal Weapon and The Color Purple, has publicly revealed that he has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. He made the announcement during an emotional appearance on Wednesday's The Today Show, stating that he can live with the condition and that there are moments he will never forget.
Diagnosis After Honorary Oscar
Glover disclosed that he was diagnosed with the degenerative condition 'not long' after receiving an honorary Oscar in 2022. Speaking on the show, he said: 'I can live with it in a sense. I'm sure as it advances, different things will be different and changing.'
Family Support and Speaking on His Own Terms
Glover's daughter Mandisa appeared alongside him during the pre-taped segment, emphasizing the importance of her father speaking publicly on his own terms. 'And the time is now. What better time but now for him to speak for himself? It's important because people ask questions sometimes, and I don't want to be a dishonest person and say, 'Oh, yeah, everything is all right. It's all great,'' she said.
Glover's announcement has drawn widespread attention, highlighting the challenges faced by individuals living with Alzheimer's and the importance of open dialogue about the disease.
