Bromley seizes truck in Downham in fly-tipping crackdown

Bromley Council has seized a Ford Transit tipper truck suspected of being used for fly-tipping. The vehicle was taken from Goudhurst Road in Downham, and the council believes it has identified the driver.

Recent enforcement figures

Over the past six months, the council has seized seven vehicles and crushed eleven others as part of its ongoing campaign against illegal waste dumping. Tipper trucks, commonly used to transport large volumes of waste, are often attractive to individuals seeking to profit from unlawful rubbish collection and disposal.

The council is reminding residents and businesses to use only legitimate waste disposal operators and to verify that anyone removing waste on their behalf is a registered waste carrier. Failure to make these checks could lead to action if the waste is later found to have been fly-tipped.

Council statement on fly-tipping

A council spokesperson said: "Fly-tipping damages the environment, blights local neighbourhoods and places an unnecessary burden on taxpayers. We are continuing to use all available powers to tackle those suspected of being involved, including seizing vehicles linked to waste offences."

The spokesperson added: "Seizing vehicles helps disrupt the movement and disposal of waste, preventing further offending and sending a clear message that fly-tipping will not be tolerated in our borough."

Disposal options and reporting

Bulky waste items can be disposed of at the Churchfields Road Reuse and Recycling Centre or the Weekend Reuse and Recycling Centre on Baths Road. Residents can also book an appointment for the council to collect items directly, with details available on the council's website.

Anyone with information about fly-tipping is encouraged to report it to support ongoing investigations. A reward of up to £500 is available for information leading to prosecution.
