A 14-year-old boy has been arrested following an alleged hit-and-run in Clapham that left a teenage cyclist hospitalized. The incident occurred on Clapham Park Road at approximately 6:30 pm on June 15.
The victim, a 16-year-old boy riding an e-bike, sustained injuries that are not considered life-threatening or life-changing. He was taken to a major trauma centre for treatment.
The suspect was arrested later that evening in the Lambeth area on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and aggravated vehicle taking. He remains in police custody.
Photos shared on social media showed large sections of Clapham Park Road cordoned off as emergency services responded.
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson stated: “Police were called at 6:29 pm on Monday, June 15, to reports of a collision between a car and an e-bike on Clapham Park Road, Clapham. The vehicle did not remain at the scene. Officers attended with the London Ambulance Service and the rider of the e-bike, a 16-year-old boy, was taken to hospital. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing. A 14-year-old boy was arrested on Monday evening in the Lambeth area on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and aggravated vehicle taking. He remains in police custody. Police enquiries continue and anyone with dash-cam footage of the incident or information that could help detectives is asked to call 101, quoting CAD 6920/16JUN26. A London Ambulance Service spokesperson added: “We were called at 6:29 pm yesterday (Monday, June 15) to reports of a road traffic collision in Clapham Park Road, Clapham. We sent an ambulance crew, a paramedic in a fast response car and an incident response officer to the scene. We treated a patient at the scene and took him to a major trauma centre as a priority.”
