London Weather Alert: Torrential Rain & Winds Hit Capital Saturday
Met Office Issues Rain Warning for London

London is set for a weekend of severe weather disruption as the Met Office issues a formal yellow warning for heavy rain and strong winds across the capital.

When and Where the Severe Weather Will Strike

The official alert comes into force at 6am on Saturday, 29th November, and will remain active until 11:59pm the same day. The forecaster predicts that torrential downpours will develop across southwest England on Friday night, spreading northeastwards throughout Saturday and eventually clearing into the North Sea by Saturday night.

There is significant potential for 20-30mm of rainfall to fall widely, with some localised areas potentially seeing up to 50mm. Over higher ground, there is even a small chance of 60-80mm of rain accumulating.

Conflicting Forecasts: Met Office vs BBC Weather

While the Met Office's hour-by-hour forecast suggests the heaviest downpours will begin around 6am and last until approximately 11am, the BBC Weather forecast presents a more prolonged period of rainfall.

The BBC predicts rain will begin much earlier, around 1am on Saturday7pm in the evening. Their forecast also indicates far heavier and longer-lasting rain for Greater London.

Strong Winds and Further Disruption Ahead

The Met Office has also cautioned that strong winds may accompany the heavy rain, particularly across eastern parts of England on Saturday night. This combination could lead to difficult travel conditions and potential localised flooding.

Looking further ahead, the unsettled weather is not a one-off event. The capital is also braced for further heavy rain on Monday, with many more hours of torrential downpours expected to fall.

Residents and visitors in London are advised to plan their weekend travel carefully, allow for extra journey time, and stay updated with the latest weather warnings from official sources.
