Young Vic Season: Thelma & Louise Musical, Ben Whishaw in Eurotrash

The Young Vic Theatre has unveiled its highly anticipated 2026-27 season, marking the second full season under the leadership of new artistic director Nadia Fall. This expansive lineup promises to captivate audiences with a blend of world premieres, international adaptations, and thought-provoking dramas, solidifying the venue's reputation for innovative and edgy productions.

A Full-Throttle Start with Thelma & Louise Musical

Kicking off the season on September 3, 2026, and running through October 24, 2026, is the world premiere of a musical adaptation of Ridley Scott's iconic 1990s feminist thriller, Thelma & Louise. This stage version brings the beloved road movie to life with a creative team that sparks immense curiosity. Callie Khouri, who wrote the original screenplay, has penned the book, ensuring the story's authentic voice remains intact.

The music is composed by alt-country legend Neko Case, known for her brooding and surreal style, which promises a departure from traditional showtunes. The production will feature heavyweight British performers Amy Lennox and Rachel Tucker in the title roles, portraying the sharp-tongued waitress and repressed housewife whose fateful drive becomes a legendary journey.

Eurotrash: A Star-Studded Adaptation

Following this, from November 13, 2026, to January 9, 2027, the Young Vic presents the English language stage premiere of Eurotrash, adapted by Colin Teevan from Christian Kracht's bestselling novel. The production stars acclaimed actor Ben Whishaw alongside Kathryn Hunter, playing a mother and son embarking on a road trip through the Swiss Alps to relinquish their vast family fortune and escape their past. Directed by Walter Meierjohann, this promises to be a highlight of the London theatre scene.

International Premieres and New Works

The season continues with the UK premiere of La Distance by acclaimed Portuguese playwright Tiago Rodriguez, running from January 22 to February 13, 2027. This French-language drama, with English surtitles, explores themes of separation, hope, and parent-child bonds in a collapsing world, featuring original cast members Alison Dechamps and Adama Diop.

From March 5 to April 24, 2027, the Young Vic stages dissent, a new play by legendary British playwright debbie tucker green, known for her minimalist style. The work delves into humanity's capacity for monstrous behavior, offering a provocative and timely narrative.

Revivals and Studio Productions

Nadia Fall herself will direct the first UK revival of August Wilson's 2003 play Gem of the Ocean, set in 1904 and centered on Aunt Ester, a 285-year-old former slave. This production runs from May 14 to July 10, 2027, adding a historical depth to the season.

In the intimate Maria studio, the season includes Shedinburgh (September 19 to October 10, 2026), a pop-up Edinburgh Fringe venue that brings a diverse program of theatre, music, and comedy to London. Following this, Ewa Dina directs Theresa Ikoko's drama Girls (October 22 to November 21, 2026), which addresses the 2014 Nigerian insurrection and the abduction of hundreds of girls.

Tickets for Thelma & Louise, Girls, Eurotrash, and La Distance will go on general sale starting April 23, 2026, offering theatre enthusiasts early access to these must-see productions.
