Radiohead and RSC's 'Hamlet Hail to the Thief' Coming to London This Autumn
Radiohead and RSC's Hamlet Mash-Up Arrives in London

Radiohead and the RSC's 'Hamlet Hail to the Thief' is finally coming to London. The Thom Yorke-curated mash-up of Shakespeare's 'Hamlet' and Radiohead's sixth album will arrive in the capital this autumn.

A Unique Theatrical Experience

The most singular production of Shakespeare's masterpiece 'Hamlet' in recent years was 'Hamlet Hail to the Thief', an abridged version set to Radiohead's 2003 album 'Hail to the Thief'. Co-directed by US director Christine Jones and the legendary Steven Hoggett, it was created with active collaboration from Radiohead's Thom Yorke, who reorchestrated the songs for performance by the show's live band, not Radiohead themselves.

From Stratford to London

This ambitious project was staged by the Royal Shakespeare Company and played sold-out 2025 seasons in Stratford-upon-Avon and Manchester, but it did not go to London. Now it will, with an extended run at the Barbican Centre. Traditionally, the RSC transfers two shows to the Barbican for an autumn/winter season, but for 2026/7, it is just 'Hamlet Hail to the Thief' with an extended run.

The production will largely retain its original cast, with Samuel Blenkin returning as Hamlet and Paul Hilton as Claudius. Reviews from last year were largely positive. In the accompanying blurb for this transfer, Hoggett indicated that this is not the same show as last year but one taken to the next level. 'The chance to put all the learnings into the next stages of a show is a great privilege. What were guesstimates and hopes become areas we can now push into, knowing we can create more precision,' he said.

Critical Reception and Improvements

Personally, I had a few problems with it when I saw it in Manchester, so I am glad to hear it has evolved. But at its best, it is thrilling. This is almost certainly the only Hamlet/Radiohead mash-up of our lifetimes, and if you are a fan of either, it is not to be missed.

'Hamlet Hail to the Thief' is at the Barbican Centre from October 31 to January 23, 2027. Tickets will go on general sale on June 26.
