A sultry and spectacular new production has arrived in East London, offering a decidedly grown-up alternative to traditional festive entertainment. The Nutcracker Noir, an immersive dining and theatre experience, has officially launched at Protein Studios in Shoreditch, promising to be one of the standout Christmas nights out in the capital this season.
A Grown-Up Twist on a Festive Classic
This is not the sugar-plum fairy tale of your childhood memories. Conceived by Secret Theatre, this bold reimagining transforms Tchaikovsky's classic into a glamorous, mischievous fantasy. The story follows Clara, an orphan with a vivid imagination, who conjures her own deliciously eccentric version of the Nutcracker narrative.
Guests are taken on a journey through five lavishly designed immersive spaces, moving from bustling Christmas bodegas to hidden rooms, glitzy fantasy corners, and even a surreal trip to the North Pole. With cheeky elves and a captivating cast, the experience blends world-class theatre with the thrill of an adventure.
Decadent Dining and West-End Calibre Performance
True to London's reputation for exceptional food, the culinary offering is central to the experience. The multi-course feast has been crafted by immersive dining specialist Jenny McNeill of Feast + Fable, with each dish reflecting a chapter in Clara's story.
The menu is a show-stopping affair, featuring dishes such as Brick Lane Butter with Sourdough, glistening Chalk Stream Trout, indulgent Burnt Ends 'n' Grits, and a comforting Basque cheesecake. The drinks selection is equally impressive, boasting Laurent-Perrier Champagne and bespoke, dazzling cocktails.
The production boasts serious theatrical pedigree. It is adapted and co-directed by immersive theatre pioneer Richard Crawford, with choreography by Gary Lloyd, and is co-produced by Attila Keskin of DesignScene. The lead role of Clara is shared by Jairus McClanahan, Patrick Wilden, and Anita Nicole, supported by a versatile ensemble who guide guests through this festive fever dream.
