Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) has revealed a devastating secret to her family following the death of Dr Caitlin Todd (Caroline Harker) in Emmerdale. In the episode airing August 13 on ITV1, and available on ITVX and YouTube, Charity told her loved ones that Dr Todd raped her. However, Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb) senses she is not being entirely honest, and his suspicions could threaten their fragile relationship.
Charity's confession and family reaction
Earlier this week, Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill) walked in on a confrontation between Charity and Dr Todd. Sarah shoved the surgeon, causing Caitlin to hit her head and die. Serena Sugden (Casey Al-Shaqsy) then arrived and created a cover story before police arrived. Detective Sergeant Ramsden (Chelsea Edge) has been investigating the death, and initially interviewed Charity, who claimed responsibility for pushing Caitlin.
While Charity was held in prison, Sarah struggled to hide the truth. In today's episode, Sarah attended a family meeting at the pub with the Dingles. Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter), Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley), and Moira Barton (Natalie J Robb) noted it was out of character for Charity to call emergency services. Overwhelmed, Sarah left and went to the police station, nearly revealing more before Ramsden released Charity.
Mackenzie's suspicions grow
Back at the pub, Charity faced more questions from her family. She then revealed that Dr Todd had raped her, but did not elaborate further due to being overwhelmed. Mackenzie, however, felt she was withholding something. He told her it seemed like she was holding back, but she snapped, expressing hope that he would support her.
Mackenzie is not one to ignore his instincts. If he continues to press Charity, she may crack and reveal what truly happened. Their relationship is already fragile, and this latest development could have significant consequences.
