Kylie Minogue Opens Up About Love Life and Embracing Singlehood
Kylie Minogue on Love Life and Being Happy Single

Kylie Minogue has been soundtracking her fans' lives for over three decades, from dance anthems like Padam Padam to romantic ballads such as All the Lovers. Yet, behind the music, her personal life has seen its share of highs and lows. Now aged 57, the Australian pop icon says she is reveling in the 'freedom' that comes with being single.

In her new Netflix documentary, simply titled Kylie, she revisits her past romances, including the one that left an indelible mark on her heart.

Who Has Kylie Minogue Dated?

Jason Donovan (1986–1989)

Kylie famously dated fellow Neighbours star Jason Donovan, now 57. Their on-screen romance as Scott and Charlene culminated in a wedding watched by nearly 20 million viewers in 1987. Off-screen, they collaborated on the hit Especially For You, which topped the UK charts in 1988. However, their relationship ended as Kylie's career soared and she met INXS frontman Michael Hutchence. Jason admitted his jealousy contributed to the split, calling it 'extremely painful' and taking years to recover. The two remain friends, with Kylie posting a birthday tribute to him on Instagram. Jason, now married to Angela Malloch, appears in Kylie's documentary, noting he sensed Hutchence's interest in her early on.

Michael Hutchence (1989–1991)

Kylie denies any overlap between her relationships with Jason and Michael Hutchence. The rock star, who died by suicide in 1997 at age 37, was described by Kylie as 'probably' the love of her life. In the documentary, she tearfully admits she has spent years searching for a similar spark but 'haven't got it.' She recalls attending his funeral in Sydney and fleeing to Paris to cope with her grief. Even now, she feels he is 'with her.'

Stéphane Sednaoui (1996–1998)

Kylie dated French music video director Stéphane Sednaoui, now 63, who worked with Madonna and Björk. He directed her in Towa Tei's GBI (German Bold Italic). Their relationship remained largely private.

James Gooding (2000–2003)

Her relationship with model James Gooding ended bitterly. After an initial statement about focusing on friendship, Gooding called her 'self-obsessed' and a 'control freak,' while she criticized his cocaine use and heavy drinking.

Olivier Martinez (2003–2007)

Kylie's longest relationship at the time was with French actor Olivier Martinez, now 60, known for films like S.W.A.T. and Unfaithful. He supported her through early-stage breast cancer treatment in 2005. They split but were spotted together as friends in 2017.

Andres Velencoso (2008–2015)

She dated Spanish model Andres Velencoso for seven years, one of her longest relationships. They met while filming a fragrance ad but parted amicably due to hectic schedules. Kylie said she was 'very sad' but still loved him.

Joshua Sasse (2015–2017)

In 2016, Kylie got engaged to British actor Joshua Sasse, 19 years her junior, whom she met on set of Galavant. The engagement ended a year later, with Kylie announcing the split on Instagram, wishing each other well.

Paul Solomons (2018–2023)

Her most recent relationship was with Paul Solomons, creative director of GQ. They got together after her split from Sasse, but distance—Kylie in Australia, Paul in London—led to their breakup. A source said 'the time difference was a killer.'

Who Is Kylie Minogue Dating Now?

Currently, Kylie is single. In her documentary, she says she is 'super happy.' She told Sunday Times Style magazine, 'I don't have a boyfriend. I was in a relationship, and when that ended, I realised I was OK on my own.' She added, 'I'm getting pickier. Narcissists… I've dated one, and I'm grateful I now have that knowledge. That's my red-hot no.'

Despite her contentment, she admits she has never found a love that replicates the spark with Hutchence. Growing tearful, she confesses, 'I haven't got it.'

Kylie streams on Netflix from May 20.
