Josh Widdicombe has poured cold water on rumors that he has been chosen as one of the new hosts of Strictly Come Dancing. The comedian appeared on Good Morning Britain on Tuesday, facing a line of questioning from Susanna Reid about reports that the BBC has selected him to co-host alongside Emma Willis.
Widdicombe, known for his role on The Last Leg, was reportedly a finalist for the coveted presenting role after a 'razor-sharp' audition. Sources claimed his on-screen chemistry with Willis secured him the gig. However, the comedian remained tight-lipped during the ITV interview, telling Reid and co-host Ed Balls: 'Do not believe what you read in the papers.'
The GMB hosts continued to press an uncomfortable Widdicombe, who deflected their questions. He said: 'It's lovely to be linked with the role. It's an impressive thing on your CV. I think I'd do a lovely job.' He later added: 'It would be lovely to be the next presenter, but the thing is… It doesn't mean anything. I'm glad to be linked with it. I would love to do it.'
Reid suggested that Widdicombe may not have completed the paperwork to confirm the job, but he remained silent. At one point, he even proposed that Balls and Reid, both former Strictly contestants, would be ideal for the hosting role. 'If I was casting it, I'd look for a couple that have got Strictly heritage, two stars of the ballroom, chemistry, weekends off, experience in live TV,' he said. 'There's only one couple I can think of, and they're sitting right in front of me.'
The comedian's comments come amid widespread speculation about the next Strictly host following Tess Daly's departure. While Widdicombe did not confirm or deny the rumors, his coy responses have only fueled further debate.
As the BBC prepares for the next season, fans eagerly await an official announcement. For now, Widdicombe remains a top contender, though he insists nothing is set in stone.
