The BBC series Hope Street is returning as a feature-length film, One Of Our Own – A Hope Street film, which will see Niall Wright reprise his role as Callum McCarthy. The film is set to 'tie up loose ends' for fans of the series, which follows the police department and local residents in the fictional town of Port Devine.
Callum McCarthy returns as Detective Constable
Niall Wright, known for his role in A Woman Of Substance, starred in the first four series of Hope Street and will now return as Callum McCarthy. Since his last appearance at the end of the fourth series, Callum has progressed in his career and is now a Detective Constable.
The film, which will screen later this year following a limited theatrical release, centres on an assault that takes place in broad daylight, bringing Callum back to Port Devine to investigate. New images from the film show what audiences can expect, including Callum's return to the town.
First on-screen meeting between Callum and Donal
Cameron Cuffe, who joined Hope Street during the fifth series as police constable Donal Gallagher, will also star in the film. This marks the first time Callum and Donal will interact on-screen together, with an image of their meeting already released.
Callum is determined to get to the bottom of the assault and find out who is to blame. However, he soon faces the task of delivering bad news to his former colleague and best mate Marlene Pettigrew, played by Kerri Quinn, as he suspects her love interest might be involved.
New characters and returning faces in Port Devine
At The Commodore, Nicole Devine-Dunwoody, played by Niamh McGrady, has a new admirer while a wedding is on the horizon. Paddy Raff joins the cast as the pub's new chef Malcolm, and Letitia Hector will play Marlene's love interest Anna Baptiste. Tim McGarry will appear in a cameo role as Port Devine's minister, the Reverend Dodds.
Finnian Garbutt, who played PC Ryan Power in Hope Street's latest three series, will appear in a scene he filmed earlier in the year before his death. The film aims to provide closure for fans, as Mary McKeagney, Commissioning Editor BBC Northern Ireland, said previously: 'We hope this feature length film will provide the perfect opportunity to tie up some loose ends for fans.'
'And with some new characters thrown into the mix, I'm sure there will be plenty of drama in Port Devine!' she added.
One Of Our Own – A Hope Street film will release in cinemas later this year. Hope Street series 1–5 can be streamed on BBC iPlayer.
