Hollyoaks: Jennifer Metcalfe Teases Dark Jenson Twist

Hollyoaks star Jennifer Metcalfe has confirmed a grim twist in the storyline involving her character Mercedes McQueen and newcomer Jenson Cole (Ryan Clayton). Following Jenson's unexpected proposal, things are set to take a dark turn as his behavior becomes increasingly possessive and obsessive.

Jenson's Proposal Shocks Mercedes

Jenson, who arrived in the village earlier this year, has been an enigma. He revealed himself as the long-lost brother of Warren Fox (Jamie Lomas) and began a relationship with Mercedes to destroy Warren's life. Mercedes, who initially saw the relationship as light and fun, was stunned when Jenson proposed. 'Mercedes in no way thinks they're anywhere near warranting a proposal,' said Jennifer. 'She doesn't think they are there yet.'

A Dark Turn Ahead

Subsequent scenes will show Jenson becoming possessive and obsessive, repeatedly turning up at Mercedes' house and giving her a fright. The seeds for this character turn were planted months ago, with Jennifer noting that Jenson is a guarded soul with an air of mystery. 'He's just come into the village and nobody knows that much about him. Everything everyone thought they did know when he arrived was all a lie,' she explained.

Warren's Surveillance

Meanwhile, Warren has planted cameras at the McQueen residence to keep an eye on his elusive brother, a fact Mercedes remains unaware of. Jennifer believes Mercedes would be furious if she found out, but also secretly appreciates that Warren still cares. Despite Mercedes insisting there is no chance of reunion, Jennifer thinks there will always be a spark between them. 'There's just so much history between them and an undeniable connection that they have,' she said. 'That will always be there, no matter who they're with or where they are in the world.'

Praise for Co-Stars

Jennifer also praised her co-stars Jamie Lomas, Ryan Clayton, and Tisha Merry, who recently joined the cast as Gemma Johnson. 'I love working with Ryan and I love working with Jamie, he's one of my favourite people. It's been great having Tisha in the mix as well. What great additions both Ryan and Tisha have been to the cast – the dynamics in there!' she enthused.

Hollyoaks streams Mondays to Wednesdays from 6am on Channel 4's streaming platform, or catch episodes on TV at 7pm on E4.
