The ITV soap Emmerdale has seen a wave of cast changes in 2026, with several high-profile returns, departures, and new arrivals reshaping the village. Among the most notable developments are the return of Sadie King (Patsy Kensit), the arrival of Kim Tate's secret daughter Thea Ramsden (Chelsea Edge), and the impending exit of Vinny Dingle (Bradley Johnson) after a seven-year stint.
New Arrivals: Thea Ramsden's Shocking Revelation
Thea Ramsden, played by Chelsea Edge, arrived in the village on August 11, 2026, initially appearing to investigate the death of Dr Caitlin Todd. However, it soon became clear she had an ulterior motive, especially regarding the Tate family. It was later revealed that Thea is the daughter Kim Tate (Claire King) gave up for adoption immediately after giving birth. With Thea plotting revenge against Kim, the storyline raises the question of whether Kim has finally met her match.
Returns: Sadie King and Others
Former Home Farm queen bee Sadie King is set to return to the village she once ruled. Producer Laura Shaw confirmed the return, saying: 'We are absolutely thrilled to welcome Patsy Kensit back to the cast and crucially to see the iconic Sadie King storm back into the village. Her return will be explosive and guaranteed to shock.' Sadie's return date is September 1, 2026.
Cathy Hope (Gabrielle Dowling) has also left the soap but is expected to return. Her recent storylines included coming to terms with a PMDD diagnosis and dealing with the death of her twin brother Heath, played by Gabrielle's real-life brother Sebastian, who died following a car accident. Metro understands the star is taking a short break and will return later.
Victoria Sugden (Isabel Hodgins) left the village in February to go on maternity leave. The actress announced on Instagram that she gave birth to her first child, Georgie Grace. Victoria's exit saw her move to Portugal, but she told Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) she would return, though the exact timing remains unknown.
Tracy Shankley (Amy Walsh) also departed for maternity leave, with her character moving out of the village after a difficult year as a single mum. Walsh, married to Toby-Alexander Smith, recently gave birth to her second child and will return when her leave ends.
Departures: Vinny Dingle and Others
Vinny Dingle, played by Bradley Johnson, is set to leave later this year after seven years in the Yorkshire Dales. His storylines have included being abused by step-dad Paul Ashdale (Reece Dinsdale), losing his wife Liv Flaherty (Isobel Steele), struggling with his sexuality, and an ill-fated marriage to Gabby Thomas (Rosie Bentham). His exit is understood to be another casualty of ITV's cost-cutting measures.
Other departures in 2026 include Jimmy King (Nick Miles), Dawn Taylor (Olivia Bromley), John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth), Celia Daniels (Jaye Griffiths), Ray Walters (Joe Absolom), and Dr Caitlin Todd (Caroline Harker).
