Devil Wears Prada Musical Review: Spectacular Stage

Social News Assistant Editor Samantha Bartlett went down to London's Dominion Theatre to watch the Devil Wears Prada musical to see if it was just as good as the film.

A Spectacular Stage Adaptation

The film dominating conversations at the moment is The Devil Wears Prada 2, which arrived in UK cinemas this weekend. The movie serves as the official follow-up to the original The Devil Wears Prada, which premiered two decades ago. The sequel reunites the original 'core four' cast – with Meryl Streep as Miranda Priestly, Anne Hathaway playing Andy Sachs, Emily Blunt portraying Emily Charlton and Stanley Tucci as Nigel.

Director David Frankel and screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna have both returned to lead the project. Fresh faces joining the cast include Kenneth Branagh as Miranda's husband and Simone Ashley who plays Miranda's new assistant – described as a 'Miranda-in-training'. Additional newcomers to the ensemble include Justin Theroux, Lucy Liu, B.J. Novak, and Pauline Chalamet.

One notable absence is Adrian Grenier, who will not reprise his role as Andy's boyfriend Nate. The director acknowledged that while a cameo was discussed, it simply didn't align with the production schedule.

Given the online buzz surrounding the picture, countless fans will undoubtedly be hunting for tickets to the Devil Wears Prada Musical, which is currently playing in London's West End.

Haute Couture on Stage

The haute couture stage adaptation of Lauren Weisberger's 2003 novel and the beloved 2006 film boasts an original pop-rock score by Elton John, with lyrics by Shaina Taub and Mark Sonnenblick. The musical is currently playing at London's Dominion Theatre, where performances are scheduled through until September 26, 2026. The production is headlined by Tony-nominated actress Vanessa Williams (best known for Ugly Betty), taking on the iconic role of the fearsome Miranda Priestly.

Further notable cast members include Stevie Doc as Andy Sachs, Matt Henry as Nigel, Taila Halford as Miranda's assistant Emily Charlton, and Keelan McAuley as Nate, Andy's boyfriend.

Having attended the show with a group of friends ahead of the second film's release, it's fair to say it's an absolutely spectacular experience. The lavish costume design by Gregg Barnes is truly breathtaking, while Tim Hatley's ingenious revolving set, sweeping between Manhattan and Paris, is nothing short of magnificent. The Elton John score is equally impressive, and the comic genius brought to the characters of Nigel and Emily is spot on.

A Must-See Experience

Beyond the performance itself, the venue is a treat in its own right, with an abundance of props to admire and photograph both before and after the show. Posing on The Devil Wears Prada Step and Repeat backdrop with friends is an absolute must, and there's also a fascinating display of original costumes well worth a look. My Circle ticket was priced at £42, though seats are available from £25. With the sequel hitting cinemas this weekend and the show only booking until September, it's well worth securing your tickets sooner rather than later – they're genuinely great value and are bound to sell out fast.
