Emmerdale star Dean Andrews is back on television screens, but his new role is a far cry from his character Will Taylor. The actor, who played the husband of Kim Tate in the ITV soap, has taken on a part in Channel 5's latest drama series Number One Fan.
A Shocking Exit from Emmerdale
Soap fans will recall Will Taylor as the husband of Kim Tate, portrayed by Claire King, and father of Dawn Taylor, played by Olivia Bromley. He first arrived in the Dales in 2019 and was involved in several major storylines before his unexpected departure in 2024. During his time on the show, Will reconnected with Harriet Finch, only to discover she had an affair with DI Malone, leading to the end of their engagement. He was later horrified to learn that his past mistakes had caused Dawn to kill DI Malone in self-defence.
After becoming the groundskeeper at Home Farm, Will fell for Kim, and they eventually married, though their relationship was fraught with difficulties. The trouble began when Dawn's mother, Rose Jackson, returned, having been paid by Ruby Fox-Miligan to drive a wedge between Will and Kim. Their marriage spiraled downward, leading to a divorce, but they later decided to renew their vows. However, Joe Tate's unexpected return revealed that the entire reconciliation was a scam orchestrated by Will. In the ensuing argument, Will collapsed and died from a heart attack.
A New Chapter in Number One Fan
Now, Dean Andrews is starring in the Channel 5 psychological thriller Number One Fan, alongside former soap stars Jill Halfpenny and Sally Lindsay. His character, Stewart Jones, is a disgraced TV star with a vendetta against the show's protagonist, Lucy Logan, played by Jill Halfpenny. Stewart has been living as a recluse since his own show was cancelled, and his role is a stark contrast to the affable Will Taylor.
The series follows Lucy Logan, a daytime TV presenter who is stalked by an obsessive fan named Donna, played by Sally Lindsay. The show has received mixed reviews from viewers, with some describing it as 'ridiculously bad' but 'weirdly intriguing'.
