Former soap star Daniel MacPherson is virtually unrecognisable in his latest film role, showcasing a dramatic physical transformation. The 46-year-old actor, best known for his roles as PC Cameron Tait in The Bill and Joel Samuels in Neighbours, appears as an MMA champion in the action movie Beast, starring alongside Russell Crowe and Luke Hemsworth.
From Ramsay Street to the Octagon
MacPherson first gained fame as Joel Samuels on Neighbours, a character he played from the late 1990s until 2002. Joel left Ramsay Street to work as a marine biologist. In 2022, during what was thought to be the show's final episode, MacPherson reprised his role. His The Bill character, PC Cameron Tait, worked at Sun Hill from 2003 to 2007, involved in numerous dramatic storylines.
A Career Beyond Soap
Since leaving the soap world, MacPherson's career has flourished. He played Arion in The Shannara Chronicles and Detective Senior Constable Simon Joyner in City Homicide. He has also co-presented Dancing with the Stars and hosted the Australian version of The X Factor.
Transformation for Beast
In Beast, MacPherson portrays an ex-MMA champion who comes out of retirement to protect his family. According to Esquire Australia, he gained 10kg of muscle and fully committed to an MMA fighter's lifestyle, spending hours in training to move like a real athlete. The trailer shows his impressive, toned physique, marking a stark contrast to his soap opera days.
