Several dark truths about the murder of Theo Silverton (James Cartwright) are set to be revealed in shock Coronation Street flashbacks, exposing the secrets and lies of one resident. The death of the monstrous abuser has sent shockwaves through the street, placing six characters at the top of the suspect list.
The Suspects
At the top is Theo's husband and victim, Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce), who suffered appalling physical and emotional abuse for nearly a year. Then there is his friend and father figure George Shuttleworth (Tony Maudsley), who first recognized the red flags of this toxic relationship, along with his supportive partner Christina Boyd (Amy Robbins). Next is Danielle Silverton (Natalie Anderson), Theo's scorned ex-wife, who returns to the cobbles and bonds with Todd over their evil ex.
So far, the police investigation has focused on Gary Windass (Mikey North), Theo's former employer at the builder's yard. Theo and Gary were best friends until Gary saw his true colors. Gary implicitly threatened Theo's life by text and in person, and smashed up his van. No wonder Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) considers Gary a prime suspect. After all, it would not be the first time Gary got blood on his hands.
Recent episodes have pointed suspicion at Summer Spellman (Harriet Bibby). Todd previously dated her adoptive father Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank), whom Theo left to die in a flaming wreckage out of jealousy. As far as we know, Summer was the last person to see Theo alive. She was searching the flat for something when Theo disturbed her and advanced menacingly, seemingly about to kill her. How Summer got away is unknown. What is known is that she kept a journal detailing her hatred and anger toward Theo, including a disturbing passage fantasizing about putting a gun to his head.
George and Christina's Discovery
When George and Christina discover the journal, they question Summer's innocence, leading to serious drama. Summer is taken to the police station for questioning. The drama escalates when Christina tells a lie to the police out of panic, prompting George to take drastic action that potentially implicates Summer in the eyes of Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers).
When a guilty George confesses to Todd, it causes a serious crack in their friendship, resulting in Todd moving in with Sarah Platt (Tina O'Brien). Things take another turn when Todd tells Sarah he will not attend Theo's funeral. When Danielle returns, she accuses a gobsmacked Todd of murdering Theo for his life insurance. But Danielle is not looking squeaky clean herself. Ryan Connor (Ryan Prescott) follows Danielle and reveals he recognizes her from the night of the murder.
The Flashback Episode
The stage is set for an epic flashback. Tensions run high as one witness lies to the police about their movements on the night of the murder. A dark secret is finally revealed through a series of flashbacks, showing exactly what this guilty party saw and did, and the complex web of guilt and fear that led them to conceal the truth. The burning question remains: who has got something to hide?
