Cameron Diaz has shared heartwarming news: she and her husband, Good Charlotte rockstar Benji Madden, have welcomed their third child. The 53-year-old actress and 47-year-old musician announced the arrival of their son, Nautas Madden, via Instagram on May 6, 2026.
The Announcement
The couple posted a joint statement expressing their joy. 'Cameron and I are Happy, Excited, and feeling so BLESSED to announce the birth of our third Child, Nautas Madden. Welcome to the world Son!!' the post read. They added that their children are 'healthy and happy' and that they are 'having a blast.' While the couple chose to keep photos of the newborn private, Benji explained the meaning behind the unique name: Nautas means 'sailor, navigator, voyager' and 'one who embarks on a journey and fears not the unknown.'
Expanding the Family
Cameron and Benji are already parents to daughter Raddix, born in December 2019 via surrogate, and son Cardinal, born in March 2024. The couple married in 2015, just one year after they began dating. Here is a closer look at their relationship journey.
How They Met
Cameron and Benji first crossed paths in 2014 at an event hosted by Benji's twin brother Joel Madden and his wife Nicole Richie. Cameron recalled the meeting on the Anna Faris is Unqualified podcast in 2021, saying she was surprised she had never properly met Benji despite their shared social circles. Nicole Richie later took credit for the introduction on Watch What Happens Live, stating, 'I approve of anything that's going to make Benji happy.'
Engagement and Marriage
In December 2014, just seven months after they started dating, Cameron and Benji announced their engagement. A source close to Benji confirmed the proposal to People magazine, noting that Cameron's mother was a fan and had given her blessing. The couple said in a statement, 'We couldn't be happier to begin our new journey together surrounded by our closest family and friends.'
They wasted no time and married in January 2015 in a surprise ceremony at their Beverly Hills home. The wedding, attended by about 90 guests who thought they were heading to a pre-Golden Globes party, included bridesmaids Drew Barrymore, Nicole Richie, Cameron's sister Chimene, and her assistant Jessica Lutz. Guests included Gwyneth Paltrow, Sam Ronson, and Reese Witherspoon.
Reflections on Marriage
In 2022, Cameron spoke about her marriage on Michelle Visage's Rule Breakers podcast, praising Benji for teaching her to value herself more. 'With our marriage, I learned how to really go all in. Nothing else comes before this. It's not hard to do because [our marriage is] the most valuable thing I have,' she said.
Cameron on Motherhood
Cameron has frequently discussed her experiences as a mother. In 2020, she told Entertainment Tonight that being a mother is the 'best, best part' of her life. Speaking to Gwyneth Paltrow on her GOOP podcast, she addressed being an older mother, saying, 'I've got 50 or 60 years to go — I want to live to be 110 since I've got a young child.' She expressed a desire to be there for her daughter Raddix in her 40s, appreciating the perspective that comes with age.
On the YouTube series No Filter, Cameron contrasted having a family young versus later in life. 'Having a family when you're young... it's like anything when you're young: You do it,' she said. But starting a family later is a 'real choice' that requires hard work. She joked, 'The only pressure for me now is I have to live to be 107. No pressure!'
Past Relationships
Before Benji, Cameron had high-profile relationships with Jared Leto (1999–2003), Justin Timberlake (2003–2007), and baseball player Alex Rodriguez. Her relationship with Justin Timberlake ended amicably, and they later worked together on the 2011 comedy Bad Teacher.
Cameron Diaz and Benji Madden continue to build their family, embracing parenthood with joy and gratitude.
