Week in Wildlife: Orangutan Bridge, Whale Rescue, and More

This week's best wildlife photographs from around the world capture remarkable moments, from a clever orangutan using a canopy bridge to a dramatic whale rescue operation.

Orangutan Makes Historic Crossing

For the first time, a critically endangered Sumatran orangutan has been filmed using a canopy bridge to cross a public road in North Sumatra, Indonesia. In 2024, conservationists built the bridge high over the Lagan-Pagindar road, which provides an essential route for local people but became a barrier for animals. It took two years for an orangutan to build up the courage to cross, to cries of delight from those involved in the project.
