The Courtauld Gallery at Somerset House in London will debut an exhibition of rarely seen Georgia O'Keeffe paintings in October 2027, focusing on her Ghost Ranch works. Nearly two dozen pieces will be displayed, with 18 never before shown in the UK.

Georgia O'Keeffe: Ghost Ranch will explore the artist's New Mexico home and its influence on her life and art. O'Keeffe first moved to Ghost Ranch in 1934, renting a room on the 21,000-acre estate before purchasing it as her permanent residence. She once said, 'As soon as I saw it, that was my country. I'd never seen anything like it before, but it fitted to me exactly,' according to the Guardian.
O'Keeffe's Legacy
O'Keeffe is renowned for her magnified flower paintings, including Jimson Weed/White Flower No. 1 (1932), which sold for US$44.4 million in 2014, making it one of the most expensive paintings by a female artist at auction. Her seven-decade career also encompassed animal skulls and desert landscapes. The last major London show of her work was at Tate Modern a decade ago, featuring over 100 pieces.
Ghost Ranch Mystique
The ranch is rumoured to have been the site of a murder before O'Keeffe's purchase. It also served as the backdrop for iconic photoshoots, including one with Cecil Beaton for Vogue. The Courtauld's exhibition will be the first UK display of these 18 Ghost Ranch paintings.
