Two Russian 'rooftoppers' were arrested on Wednesday after climbing the Empire State Building's spire, well above the public observation decks, and unfurling a banner with a peace message. The couple, identified as Angela Nikolau and Ivan Beerkus, are known for similar stunts in Los Angeles and Tianjin, China.
Details of the Stunt
Dressed in black with faces covered, they displayed a large black banner reading: 'When the power of love beats the love of power, the world knows peace.' It remains unclear how they accessed the uppermost section of the 1,454-foot (443-meter) tower in midtown Manhattan.
Legal Consequences
The New York Police Department stated that charges were pending. CBS News later reported the pair face charges including burglary, criminal trespass, and reckless endangerment. The investigation is ongoing.
