Wimbledon Strawberry Fried Chicken 2026

Wimbledon is set to launch a strawberry-flavoured fried chicken dish in 2026, blending tradition with innovation. The All England Lawn Tennis Club announced that the iconic strawberries, sourced from a single farm in Kent, will now be featured in a hot sauce for fried chicken. Executive Chef Sam Morgan revealed at a preview event that the team experimented with vinegar levels to achieve the perfect sweetness.

The dish, available in the Walled Garden restaurant from 29 June to 13 July, consists of fried chicken with a hot strawberry sauce made from a tomato base, vinegar, sugar, and blended strawberries. It is served with fried red onions and slaw. This year's public food offering aims to "push the boundaries," according to Morgan, who emphasized working closely with British suppliers to reflect seasonal bests.

Strawberries and Cream Tradition

Strawberries and cream have been synonymous with Wimbledon since 1877, when the fruit was served to around 200 spectators. Today, approximately 2 million strawberries (nearly 40 tonnes) are consumed during the 14-day Championships. Punnets remain affordable at under three pounds to maintain tradition.

Food History at Wimbledon

The Wimbledon Museum features a year-round exhibition on food and drink history, including stories about players like Suzanne Lenglen, who drank champagne and cognac on court. Strawberry-themed merchandise, including toys, t-shirts, knitwear, and socks, has also been popular.

How to Get Wimbledon Tickets

Restaurant reservations are available for ticketholders and those queuing. The daily Wimbledon queue at Wimbledon Park offers access to thousands of tickets. Arriving around 5 am may grant grounds entry, but for Centre Court or Court 1 tickets, camping overnight is recommended to secure one of 500 daily tickets for each major court.
