Waitrose has issued an urgent product recall for two lines of its bottled water after the discovery of potential glass contamination. The supermarket giant is advising customers to immediately stop drinking the affected products and return them to stores.
Details of the Waitrose Product Recall
The recall, announced by the government's Food Standards Agency, specifically concerns Waitrose No1 Deeside Mineral Water and Waitrose No1 Deeside Sparkling Water. Both products are sold in 750ml bottles. The alert states that fragments of glass may be present inside the bottles upon opening, posing a serious risk of injury if consumed.
The affected batches have specific best-before dates. The mineral water bottles with dates in November and December 2027 are unsafe, as are the sparkling water bottles with a December 2027 best-before date. The official recall notice was published on Tuesday, 30 December.
What Customers Should Do
Anyone who has purchased either of the identified products is being instructed not to drink the water. Instead, they should take the bottles back to their nearest Waitrose branch, where they will receive a full refund. No receipt is required for the return.
The government's food alert emphasises the serious nature of the hazard, noting the clear risk of physical harm from ingesting or coming into contact with glass shards.
Separate Salmonella Alert for Pistachio Nougat
In a separate and unrelated food safety incident, a second recall is currently in effect. London Wholesalers Ltd is recalling BOSS Sugar Free Persian Pistachio Nougat due to the detection of salmonella.
Salmonella infection can cause unpleasant symptoms including fever, diarrhoea, and abdominal cramps. Health officials advise that anyone experiencing these symptoms should avoid work, school, or nursery until they have been symptom-free for at least 48 hours to prevent spreading the infection.
Consumers who have bought this pistachio nougat product are urged not to eat it and to return it to the point of purchase for a full refund.
These recalls highlight the importance of heeding official food safety alerts. Customers with concerns about the Waitrose water products are advised to contact the supermarket's customer service team for further guidance.
