St Moritz club and restaurant, a longstanding fixture of Soho's nightlife since 1960, has shut down. The venue on Wardour Street closed temporarily until further notice, as announced on its Instagram page earlier this month. However, many believe the closure is permanent.
Gaz's Rockin' Blues anniversary cancelled
Gaz's Rockin' Blues Club, a weekly ska, punk, reggae and rhythm 'n' blues night hosted by DJ Gaz Mayall, had been held at St Moritz since the 1990s. The club posted on social media: 'Next Thursday we were due to celebrate the 46th anniversary of Gaz’s Rockin Blues at St Moritz which has sadly had to close due to pending change of ownership.' The night had moved to St Moritz from Gossips on Dean Street.
Owner Armin Lötscher passed away
The closure follows the death of owner Armin Lötscher in March 2026. A tribute on the St Moritz Instagram account stated: 'Soho has lost an icon, but we are forever grateful to have known him. We will forever remember him as one of the great characters who have graced Soho... He has run the St. Moritz Restaurant and Club since the 60’s, and that is no easy feat.'
Alpine-themed restaurant known for fondue
St Moritz was known for its Swiss dishes including fondue, rösti, bratwurst, and a extensive wine list. It had previously been listed among the 50 best restaurants in Soho by Time Out London.
