10 Greek Street, an acclaimed Soho restaurant that earned rave reviews throughout its tenure, has announced it will close after 14 years. The venue, which opened in February 2012, created a buzz like few other diners, standing apart from the street's cocktail bars and hipster cafes with an eatery that served honestly scrumptious food, pleasing critics and regular diners alike.
A decade and a half of culinary acclaim
The Telegraph wrote on its opening that it was worth 'pulling a hamstring over' to beat crowds to 10 Greek Street. The restaurant earned a dedicated following over the next 14 years with its cost, unpretentious atmosphere, and a chalkboard of ever-shifting daily menus offering contemporary twists on classic British and European cuisine.
Famed dishes included onion tarte fine topped with creamy goats' curd, tomatoes, rocket, and basil; Yorkshire lamb served with harissa, aubergine, and labneh; and seafood highlights such as whole sardines with aioli or buttermilk fried cod's cheeks.
Founders confirm closure date
Founders Cameron Emirali and Luke Wilson, son of the late Charles Wilson, former editor of The Times, said it was 'the right time to move on' as they announced the venue's closure on August 8, giving diners a few weeks for a final visit.
Besides its mercurial menu, 10 Greek Street was also famed for its expansive drinks offering, including its 'little black book' of highly affordable wines such as its house wine coming in at just £34. Wilson's love of lager is well-known, as he also founded the brand Braybrooke Beer Co in Leicestershire.
Customer tributes pour in
One TripAdvisor reviewer summarised 10 Greek Street as a 'legendary restaurant that constantly delivers', adding: 'I have been coming to this lively Soho brasserie for years and it’s always brilliant. The food is excellent - the Highland Wing Rib which was cooked to perfection on our last visit - and they have a great wine list to match. Could not recommend this restaurant more highly.'
Another added: 'I wasn't expecting the food to be so good as I thought this was more of a wine bar, but I was really surprised. Its all seasonal, but we had the most incredible venison and their homemade ice cream is...wow. Also, staff are so nice, which makes it feel like a real neighbourhood hangout. Can't wait to return.'
10 Greek Street in Soho closes on August 8. Bookings are still available for final visits.
