Two of London's most iconic food establishments, Morley's chicken shops and the celebrated Malaysian restaurant Roti King, are joining forces for an exciting culinary collaboration. The partnership, branded as Bossman Mamak, will launch as a temporary pop-up restaurant in Brixton Village, running from Thursday, April 9th through Sunday, April 12th.
A Fusion of London Food Cultures
This unique collaboration represents a meeting of distinct food traditions that have both become integral parts of London's diverse culinary landscape. Morley's, founded in Sydenham in 1985, has grown to become a South London institution with 130 branches across the United Kingdom. Roti King, which opened its original Euston location in 2014, has expanded to multiple London locations including Battersea Power Station, Waterloo, and Spitalfields, plus a Brighton outpost.
Special Menu Items and Merchandise
The Bossman Mamak pop-up will feature four exclusive dishes that creatively blend Morley's signature fried chicken with Roti King's Malaysian flavors:
- Wings & Nasi Lah: Nasi Goreng served with three chicken wings, sambal sauce, and a fried egg
- Boss, Ayam Dua!: Two-piece fried chicken with crispy fries in a special spice mix, accompanied by peanut sauce dip
- Sedap Wrap: Chicken tenders wrapped in roti canai with achar salad
- KL Dirty Fries: A vegan option featuring crispy fries with shiitake mushroom rendang
In addition to the food offerings, the collaboration will include limited edition merchandise, specifically a tote bag and cap available for purchase during the event.
Founders' Perspectives on the Collaboration
Roti King founder Sugen Gopal explained the cultural significance behind the partnership: 'Mamak stalls in Malaysia serve as community hubs where people gather after work, after football matches, and throughout the night. When I observe Morley's in London, I recognize that same vibrant energy and sense of community. This collaboration transcends a simple business partnership—it represents two food cultures discovering common ground, built on shared community values expressed through different flavor profiles.'
Morley's CEO Shan Selvendran added: 'We continuously seek to expand Morley's culinary boundaries while honoring our South London heritage. Witnessing our signature chicken combined with Roti King's legendary flavors creates something truly special—it's bold, iconic, and perfectly embodies the spirit of London street food.'
