McDonald's McGriddles Discontinued Tomorrow, Fans Devastated

McDonald's fans are in mourning as the chain prepares to discontinue its popular McGriddles breakfast item tomorrow, April 28. The limited-edition product, which finally made its way to the UK from the United States after 23 years, is leaving the menu as part of the chain's regular six-week rotation.

What is a McGriddle?

The McGriddle is a breakfast sandwich priced at £3.99. It features a sausage patty, fried egg, and a slice of American cheese sandwiched between two maple-flavored griddle cakes. These are essentially a sausage, egg, and cheese McMuffin, but with fluffy American-style pancakes replacing the English muffin. The griddle cakes are slightly denser and thicker than a typical pancake, and they contain granulated maple syrup crystals baked into them, eliminating the mess of liquid syrup.

Fan Reactions

On Reddit, customers have been vocal about their love for the McGriddle. User u/jackol4nt3rn called it "the best breakfast item," adding, "It's so much better than the sad old McMuffin, it's almost like an angel swooped down and dropped it off." User u/meringeder wrote, "I never want a McMuffin again now. I really wish it wasn't a limited run." Another user, u/GarlicFarter, shared, "Jesus Christ just had one. If they make them permanent, then they can start having my money again." User u/Leading-Draw-1872 even considered freezing a stash, saying, "I experimented and froze one. It defrosted quite well... I'm debating ordering a ton of them tomorrow and freezing them." On TikTok, @foodwithasb proclaimed, "This is genuinely my favourite breakfast item they've ever done at McDonald's, it's the best one." Metro's food writer also praised the McGriddle, calling it "the best McDonald's breakfast yet" for its greasy, filling, and delicious sweet-savory combination.

Mixed Opinions

Not everyone is a fan. Some customers found the maple flavor too sweet, describing it as "gross" and "McTerrible."

Will McGriddles Return?

Nothing has been officially confirmed, but there is hope. Lauren Schultz, CEO of McDonald's UK & Ireland, told MCA Insight that the response to McGriddles had been "very positive" and hinted at plans to bring it back. Fans are advised to keep an eye on future menu changes.
