East London Marketplace Transforms into a 'Community-First' Food Destination
London's vibrant food scene is set to welcome a new addition as Maison Noor prepares to open in Ilford, rebranding the former Mercato Metropolitano into a community-focused food court. This transformation, scheduled for later this month, aims to create a hub that prioritizes local engagement while offering a diverse array of culinary delights.
A Global Halal Street Food Experience
Maison Noor will feature 16 fully halal vendors, showcasing street food inspired by cuisines from around the world. Highlights include Chai & Chapati, a South Asian-inspired café from Knightsbridge; Caprinos Pizza serving cheesy slices; Flip & Sear offering 100 percent wagyu beef burgers; Birria Taco with LA and Mexican-inspired dishes; and Bunify for loaded brioche buns. For those with a sweet tooth, options include ice cream from Badiani Italian Gelato, freshly baked treats from Dum Dum Doughnuts, and Mrs Potts' Chocolate House.
Beyond Food: A Multifunctional Community Space
In addition to its culinary offerings, Maison Noor is designed to serve as a comprehensive community venue. The space will include:
- An 850 square foot soft-play area for children
- A deli supermarket for daily essentials
- A daily farmer's market promoting local produce
- Plans for a mezzanine level hosting fashion, beauty, and art boutiques
Located in Ilford's Cultural Quarter, just minutes from the Elizabeth Line station, the venue is poised to become a convenient and attractive destination for residents and visitors alike.
Leadership and Vision for Community Impact
The project is backed by Sadiq Khan and the Greater London Authority's City Hall, with Atif Amin serving as managing director. Amin, who has extensive experience in the food industry, including opening 50 locations with Creams Dessert Café and roles at Euphorium Bakery, Clos Maggiore, and Big Easy Restaurant, expressed his enthusiasm for the venture.
'We are incredibly proud and excited to introduce Maison Noor, a new concept that will create a highly desirable destination in Ilford for all from across London,' Amin said. 'We're bringing together some of the most exciting food brands, entrepreneurs, and traders under one roof to create a space inspired by global cultures and adding value to the local community.'
Context and Future of London's Food Halls
While the Mercado Metropolitano in Elephant & Castle is being demolished, the brand continues to operate in Wood Wharf and Mayfair. Maison Noor's launch reflects a growing trend in London towards food halls that blend diverse culinary offerings with community-focused amenities, enhancing the city's reputation as a global food capital.
