London's Top Pub to Lose Acclaimed Pizza Pop-Up Dough Hands in April
London's Best Pub Loses Dough Hands Pizza Residency in April

In a development that will disappoint many south London food enthusiasts, the highly praised pizza pop-up Dough Hands will conclude its residency at the Old Nun's Head pub in Nunhead next month. The final service is scheduled for April 25, marking the end of an era for this beloved culinary offering in the area.

End of an Era for South London Pizza Lovers

Dough Hands, renowned for its near-perfect New York-style pizzas, has been a standout feature at the Old Nun's Head, which was recently crowned Time Out's best pub in London. The pub earned this title for its dynamic atmosphere, including events like speed-dating, drag king cabaret, and queer-friendly nights such as Pop-Up Dyke Bar.

Founder's Statement and Future Plans

Hannah Drye, founder of Dough Hands, expressed gratitude on Instagram, stating, 'The year wouldn't have been possible without the team behind it all, so the biggest of big ups to the talented dough hands Nunhead team.' She confirmed that while the Nunhead residency ends, Dough Hands will maintain its original residency at the Spurstowe Arms in London Fields, operating seven days a week.

Drye also hinted at an upcoming new project involving the Nunhead team, urging followers to 'keep ya eyes peeled for that.' This suggests that while the pop-up is leaving south London temporarily, there may be future collaborations or returns.

Critical Acclaim and Legacy

Dough Hands has been featured on Time Out's list of the best pizza in London, praised for its 'mega New York-style pies... big and heartily topped behemoths, with brittle (in a good way) crispy crusts and a pleasingly oily array of toppings.' The Old Nun's Head's recognition as a top pub further highlights the significance of this loss for the local community.

Despite this closure, the pub continues to thrive as a vibrant hub in south east London, known for its inclusive and entertaining events. Foodies can still enjoy Dough Hands' offerings at the Spurstowe Arms, ensuring that the pizza legacy lives on across the river.
