New Pizza Residency at London's Best Pub
April 25 marked a sad day for pizza lovers in south London as Dough Hands ended its residency at the Old Nun's Head pub in Nunhead. The popular pizza spot had been serving hearty, generously topped slices at the acclaimed pub, which was recently named the best boozer in London by Time Out. However, a new era begins on May 6 when Slice Circle takes over, offering New York-style 14-inch pizzas.
From Dough Hands to Slice Circle
Slice Circle co-founder Angus Whitfield honed his skills at Dough Hands before launching the venture with Methun Chelvan, formerly of Bad Boy Pizza Society. This pedigree ensures the new pizzas will likely share the quality and essence of their predecessors. The team promises a 'super thin, light, crispy bite, with a juicy crust designed for dunking,' inspired by iconic New York pizzerias like Luigi's, Arturo's, and L'Industrie.
The Menu
Initially, five pizzas will be available, priced from £13:
- Red Pie: San Marzano tomatoes, oregano, confit garlic, and house breadcrumbs.
- Cheese Pie: Fior di latte, San Marzano, provolone, British hard cheese, and basil.
- Pep Pie: San Marzano, fior di latte, pepperoni, oregano, and pecorino.
- Nun Pie: San Marzano, fior di latte, soppressata, whipped ricotta, hot honey, and pecorino.
- Tamil Pie: Masala vodka sauce, fior di latte, red onion, lemon yoghurt, and coriander.
For dessert, Slice Circle will serve house tiramisu, and starting June, a rotating monthly special or collaboration pizza will be introduced.
Where to Find Dough Hands Now
Loyal Dough Hands fans can still enjoy their pizzas at the Spurstowe Arms in London Fields, where the team has a permanent residence, and from May 7 at All My Friends in Hackney Wick. The new residency also promises super-sized slices with a fresh menu.
