London Burger Secures Top Spot in UK's 2026 National Burger Awards
The UK's premier burger for 2026 has been officially announced, with a surprising victory from a national chain that has captured the culinary spotlight. Honest Burgers, operating 45 restaurants across the country, claimed the coveted title at the 12th annual National Burger Awards, a prestigious competition that pits restaurants, pubs, and street food vendors against each other in a fierce battle for burger supremacy.
Exclusive London Offering Drives Victory
While Honest Burgers has a widespread presence throughout the UK, its winning creation, The Honest, is uniquely available at just one location: the Smash + Grab site in London's bustling Liverpool Street area. This exclusive offering adds a layer of intrigue for burger enthusiasts, making it a must-visit destination in the capital.
The Honest burger is a masterful evolution of the chain's original recipe, meticulously crafted by co-founder Tom Barton. It features dry-aged beef, thick-cut Wiltshire bacon, a homemade beef and onion relish, XL cheese, pickles, and diced onion. Adam Layton, head of food at Honest Burgers, explained, 'The burger we won with is an evolution of the original Honest, so we just upped every ingredient and the results are obvious.' This attention to detail and quality ingredients propelled the chain to victory in its debut appearance at the 2026 competition, where it outperformed 15 other finalists on Tuesday, March 24.
Competitive Field Highlights Culinary Excellence
The signature round of the awards saw strong performances from other notable contenders. London's Burger & Beyond, also a new entrant this year, secured second place, while Newcastle's Meat Stack earned third. Additional accolades were distributed across various categories, showcasing the diversity and innovation within the UK's burger scene.
- Burger Chef of the Year: Tom Curtis from Dodo Pub Co.
- Plant-Based Burger of the Year: Charlie Wood-Jones from Cawsburger.
- Bloggers' Choice Award: Nick Watkins from El Perro Negro, a previous National Burger Awards winner.
- The Great Shake Challenge: Greg Olejarka from Crane Feasts for the best milkshake creation.
This year's awards underscore London's dominant role in the UK's culinary landscape, with multiple local establishments receiving recognition. The victory of Honest Burgers not only highlights the chain's commitment to quality but also reinforces London's reputation as a hub for innovative and award-winning dining experiences.
