Soundproof Booth in London Shows How Noise Affects Flavor Perception
London Booth Reveals Noise Impact on Flavor

A pioneering 'Snackout Booth' has arrived in London, offering snack enthusiasts a unique opportunity to experience flavor in an entirely new way. Developed through a collaboration between Pringles and Burger King, this soundproof booth places guests in a controlled sensory environment designed to heighten taste perception.

How the Booth Works

Once inside, participants sit in a darkened, noise-controlled space while sampling the new limited-edition Pringles x Burger King flavors. Food scientist Charles Spence explains that flavor is shaped not only by taste but also by the interplay of all other senses. Reducing auditory input and distractions can significantly enhance the tasting experience.

Scientific Insights

Charles Spence stated: "Eating is an experience that spans all five senses, but not all senses were created equal. Scientific research has highlighted that suppressing senses like sound can actually enhance the tasting experience. Noise suppresses our ability to perceive sweet and salty flavors by cross-modally masking taste. So, if you remove any auditory distractions, you're likely to experience a heightened experience of flavor because your mind focuses more fixatedly on the food in front of you."
