From the moment I arrived, the honey-hued stone and manicured gardens transported me to an Italian dream, right in the middle of the Cotswolds. Located in Wootton, this hotel—affectionately known as 'The Killy'—is a perfect base for exploring nearby Burford, Bourton-on-the-Water, Bibury, and Woodstock, home to Blenheim Palace.

My room in the stable block felt straight out of a fairytale, with exposed beams, bare brickwork, and angled walls. The rustic oak four-poster bed, leather chairs overlooking the courtyard, and a freestanding bath under a skylight made it my private haven. Each room is uniquely styled with period furniture, and complimentary English sherry awaits upon arrival. Room eight perfectly blended historical architecture with tailored luxury.
Culinary Pleasures at the Michelin-Recognised Pub
Under head chef Rob Mason, the pub has earned a place in the Michelin Guide, three AA Rosettes, and a spot in the UK's Top 50 Gastropubs for 2026. I opted for the tasting menu at £95 per guest, with a wine flight for an extra £55. Highlights included Evesham asparagus with gribiche sauce, roasted hand-dived scallop with pork jowl, and wild sea bass Grenobloise. The Cotswold lamb with braised neck and malt vinegar was unforgettable, followed by a vanilla and rhubarb dessert and a chocolate delice.

Breakfast was equally impressive, with vibrant orange egg yolks atop eggs Benedict. The intimate setting—only eight rooms—ensured a relaxed morning without queues. Owner Jim Alexander greeted me warmly, and the gentle murmur of fellow guests added to the welcoming atmosphere. I could have lingered for hours.
