Chet Hanks Moves Into a Trailer Park in Tennessee

Chet Hanks, the 35-year-old son of Hollywood icon Tom Hanks, has revealed a surprising new chapter in his life: he has moved into a trailer park. The actor and musician shared the news during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, explaining that he relocated to Tennessee to pursue his music career and now lives in an RV rather than a traditional home.

Why a Trailer Park?

Hanks explained that he didn't want to rent an apartment because he had just purchased a condo in Los Angeles and furnished it. 'I didn't want to do that again,' he said. 'Staying in Airbnbs and hotels gets really old because I just like having my own space.' Instead, he opted for a trailer in a local park, a decision inspired by a recent road trip where he stayed in an Airstream and fell in love with the simplicity.

'I was like, “Man, I want one of these,”' Hanks recalled. However, he clarified that his current setup is not as luxurious as an Airstream. 'It’s not an Airstream! I’m not there yet. But I’m really happy with it.' His Jayco Eagle trailer includes a kitchen and a walk-in shower, a feature he particularly appreciates.

Life in the Trailer Park

Contrary to stereotypes, Hanks finds the trailer park community welcoming. 'I’m probably the youngest person there by like 30 or 40 years,' he said. 'It’s not what you think… it’s all just retirees.' Despite the outdoor setting, his daily routine remains largely unchanged. 'I have a fire pit and I have used it,' he admitted. 'But most of the time, I just do exactly what I do at home, which is just stay inside and lay in bed and watch Netflix.'

Focus on Music

The move aligns with Hanks' focus on his music career. He is part of the duo Something Out West, alongside bandmate Drew Arthur. The pair released their debut EP, Leaving Hollywood, last year — a title that now feels particularly fitting. Ahead of the release, they dropped a music video for their single You Better Run, which featured a cameo from his father, Tom Hanks, in a playful nod to Forrest Gump.

Hanks' decision to embrace trailer park life marks a significant shift from his Hollywood upbringing, but he appears content with the change as he continues to pursue his artistic passions.
