A beloved East Dulwich restaurant is getting a new lease on life. Franklins, a local staple for 26 years, closed its doors in April. However, it will soon reopen under new ownership with a fresh name and concept. The venue is returning to its roots as The Victoria, the pub's original name, with a focus on high-quality food and drink.
A Culinary Revival
At the helm of The Victoria is Jamie Younger, the hospitality operator behind the popular Thai restaurant Begging Bowl. He has brought on Seán Breen, formerly of Noble Rot, as executive chef. Breen will craft a French-inspired gastropub menu featuring snacks like baguette with butter and oysters, as well as mains such as salsify fritters with aged Comte, truffle and steak tartare with dripping toast, and sautéed veal sweetbreads. Co-owner Rema Waterhouse will oversee front-of-house operations.
Martini-Centric Drinks
The Victoria will offer a dedicated martini menu, including classics and house variations like The Victory, Vesper, and Nelson's Blood. The wine list, ranging from £36 to £200 per bottle, focuses on French regional classics, with some low-intervention and biodynamic options.
Interior Design
The interiors aim to balance modern simplicity with classic pub charm, creating a welcoming atmosphere for diners and drinkers alike.
