A new study has identified Bournemouth as the United Kingdom's premier seaside destination for rainy weather, offering visitors a wealth of indoor attractions to enjoy regardless of the forecast. Located just two hours from London by train, this Dorset coastal town scored 95 out of 100 on the Rainy Day Index developed by Parkdean Resorts.
What Makes Bournemouth Rainproof?
The index considered meteorological data, geographical details, nearby indoor attractions, and shelter options. Bournemouth boasts seven miles of shoreline and 12 indoor facilities providing refuge, surpassing Exmouth Beach and Weymouth Beach, which secured second and third positions with six and seven indoor attractions respectively.
Indoor Attractions for All Weather
When the sun shines, visitors can enjoy traditional deckchairs and sandy beaches. However, if rain threatens, the town offers diverse indoor entertainment. Key attractions include:
- Russell-Cotes Art Gallery and Museum - A clifftop Victorian mansion with art collections and period interiors.
- Oceanarium - Home to sharks, turtles, and tropical marine life, perfect for families.
- RockReef - Indoor climbing walls and adventure activities on the pier, including the PierZip experience.
- BH2 Cinema - For film screenings.
- Bournemouth Pavilion Theatre - Hosting live performances.
- Westbourne Village - Shops and cafés for browsing.
