After a decade-long quest, one Londoner has declared The Londesborough in Stoke Newington as the home of the capital's best Sunday roast. The pub, once a haunt of the Kray twins, combines traditional charm with modern gastropub fare, offering a menu that has earned a loyal local following.
A decade of roast hunting
JJ Anisiobi, writing for What's On, says he has made it a personal mission over the past ten years to find the finest Sunday roast in London. Every Sunday without fail, he sits down to a roast dinner. His search finally ended at The Londesborough, a family-run pub in the heart of Stoke Newington.
The pub boasts an extensive menu, an impressive selection of wines and spirits, and a commitment to sourcing local produce. The kitchen uses fresh, high-quality ingredients prepared with care and attention to detail. The owner, a former model named Mark, runs an efficient operation, with staff like Reuben behind the bar crafting cocktails and pairing wines expertly.
The roast selection
The menu includes roast topside of beef, slow-roasted pork belly, lamb, and chicken, plus a vegetarian option. For those who cannot choose, the "Stokey Trio Roast" combines all meats on one enormous plate, generous enough for two hungry diners. Every roast comes with fluffy roast potatoes, Yorkshire puddings the size of a fist, and a medley of seasonal vegetables. Portions are generous without compromising quality.
Prices range from £16 to £22, which Anisiobi calls excellent value given the quality and quantity. His personal favourite is the roast lamb, described as perfectly cooked, tender, juicy, and packed with flavour. The slow-roasted pork belly also earns special mention for its melt-in-the-mouth succulence and crunchy crackling.
Value and atmosphere
The pub offers dedicated menus for children and dogs, adding to its welcoming atmosphere. After ten years of searching, Anisiobi believes he has finally found London's ultimate Sunday roast at The Londesborough.
