Australia is renowned for its unique and sometimes quirky snacks, from fairy bread to Vegemite. Following the successful UK launch of Tim Tams last year, the company behind them, Arnott's, is introducing another iconic Australian product to British shores. This time, it is a savoury favourite: Arnott's Shapes.
What Are Arnott's Shapes?
Arnott's Shapes are oven-baked crackers available in various shapes and flavours. They have been hailed online as 'an Aussie favourite', 'amazing', and 'the best'. In the UK, three popular varieties are now hitting the shelves: Chicken, Barbecue, and Pizza.
The Chicken flavour is described as 'mouth-watering and lightly salted', featuring a uniquely crimped cracker. The Barbecue variant offers a 'herby', 'rich', and 'tangy' tomato seasoning. Finally, the Pizza flavour is inspired by the classic dish, with a 'cheese and tomato flavour' on a crispy base.
In Australia, additional flavours such as Vegemite, Cheese & Bacon, Sweet Chilli, and Garlic Bread are available. It remains to be seen whether these will also be introduced in the UK.
Where to Buy Arnott's Shapes
The crackers are now available across the UK at Waitrose, Morrisons, and Ocado, priced at £2.50 per box. Jenni Dill, Chief Growth Officer at The Arnott's Group, commented: 'With warmer weather just around the corner, we knew it was the perfect time for us to introduce a new snack for Brits to enjoy.'
'Arnott's Shapes delivers the flavour of a crisp and the crunch of a cracker in every single bite, which is why it's one of Australia's most-loved snacks. From games nights and movie nights, to picnics in the park and backyard BBQs, or enjoying solo at home, Arnott's Shapes are your new snack obsession. We know this is a snack Brits will love!'
What Do They Taste Like?
Metro's specialist food writer, Courtney Pochin, had an exclusive first taste of the new snacks and found them incredibly moreish. She noted: 'The barbecue flavour wasn't at all what I expected. It's nothing like barbecue sauce in the UK, something to keep in mind if you prefer the more traditional BBQ taste. Instead of having a strong smoky flavour, it's herby with a slight citrussy tang.'
'The pizza one, however, tastes exactly as you'd expect. It's crispy and tomatoey with a hint of oregano. Like the barbecue, it has a tang, but in this case, I assume that's meant to be where the cheese comes in, but I wouldn't say it's got an overly strong cheese flavour, which I'd have liked more of.'
She added: 'I always love trying foods from other countries, it's such a novelty, and these are fun. I wouldn't say they're particularly groundbreaking, as we definitely have similar products here in the UK already, but they taste good, and they're incredibly moreish – I struggled to stop eating them once I'd started.'
The launch of Arnott's Shapes adds to the growing selection of international snacks available in the UK, offering Brits a taste of Australia's savoury snacking culture.
