Resident Evil and Pragmata Crossover Teased as Capcom Profits Surge

Capcom has sparked excitement among fans with a playful social media crossover between its latest title, Pragmata, and the iconic Resident Evil franchise. This comes as the company announces a revised earnings forecast for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2027, driven by strong sales of Resident Evil Requiem.

Pragmata Hacks Resident Evil Accounts

Pragmata, Capcom’s newest IP, has taken over the official Resident Evil X (formerly Twitter) accounts. The takeover is presented as an in-character hack by Diana, a Pragmata android. The account handles changed to “Diana @ Raccoon City,” featuring new profile pictures and header images. An introductory post reads: “Hi everyone! I’m Diana, a state-of-the-art Pragmata from @PragmataGame! I hacked into this weird ‘Raccoon City’ sign and ended up here!” The post includes new art of Diana posing in front of a Raccoon City sign while wearing gear from Monster Hunter.

Subsequent posts show Diana commenting on similarities between Pragmata and Resident Evil Requiem, with voice actors from Requiem reacting to the hijack. While this may be a straightforward marketing campaign, it raises speculation about a more substantial collaboration, especially since only the Resident Evil accounts are involved.

Possible Future Crossovers

Capcom could add new cosmetics inspired by each franchise to both Pragmata and Resident Evil Requiem, and possibly Monster Hunter, given the new Diana art. Resident Evil Requiem is already set to receive story DLC and a new minigame, likely the fan-favorite Mercenaries mode. Producer Masato Kumazawa hinted that the minigame might arrive soon, suggesting players clear the main story during Japan’s Golden Week (April 29 to May 5).

Capcom’s cross-promotion efforts reflect confidence in Pragmata’s performance, which sold one million copies in its first two days. Earlier fan theories that Pragmata was secretly a Mega Man game were debunked, though Capcom played along with an April Fool’s joke showing Hugh in a Mega Man costume.

Capcom Raises Earnings Forecast

Capcom announced it is revising its net sales forecast for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2027, from 190 billion yen (about £882.3 million) to 195.3 billion yen (about £907 million). This increase is attributed to the “broad acclaim globally” for Resident Evil Requiem, which launched in February, and increased sales of catalogue titles from major series.

Capcom often reinvests unexpected profits into riskier projects, such as new IP like Pragmata and revivals of less famous franchises. Recent examples include the Onimusha revival and Ōkami sequel. The company previously stated its goal to elevate certain franchises into new core IPs, including Devil May Cry and Ace Attorney. While Devil May Cry 6 is likely in development, no new Ace Attorney game has been announced since Spirit of Justice a decade ago, though Capcom acknowledged demand for Arabic localization of the series.

This crossover and financial update signal Capcom’s continued commitment to expanding its franchises and investing in new ventures.
