Reports have emerged of significant tension between two of Britain's biggest acting talents on the set of the hit crime drama MobLand. Dame Helen Mirren is said to be growing increasingly frustrated with the behaviour of her co-star, Tom Hardy.
Sources Detail On-Set Friction
According to insiders speaking to The Daily Mail, the 80-year-old acting legend is struggling with the 48-year-old Hardy's conduct during filming for the show's second series. The sources claim that Hardy's perceived unprofessionalism, including a tendency to be late for filming, is the core of the issue.
"His tone is something Dame Helen doesn't like, along with his lateness," one source revealed. "She expects better." The insider added that Mirren, known for her discipline after a career spanning nearly sixty years, finds the behaviour annoying. The situation has reportedly become personal, with crew members noticing Mirren appears less happy in scenes shared with Hardy.
A History of On-Set Disputes
This is not the first time Tom Hardy's on-set behaviour has been the subject of reports. The actor was previously involved in a well-documented feud with co-star Charlize Theron during the gruelling production of Mad Max: Fury Road in 2015.
That conflict was also partly attributed to Hardy's lateness and conduct, leading Theron to request on-set protection. Hardy later reflected in an interview that he felt "in over his head" and acknowledged Theron needed a "better, perhaps more experienced partner."
Stars at the Top of Their Game
Dame Helen Mirren, whose career began with the National Youth Theatre in 1965, plays a powerful crime family matriarch in MobLand. Tom Hardy, returning as fixer Harry Da Souza, is a major draw for the Paramount+ series. The reported friction casts a shadow over the production of the highly anticipated new season.
Metro has contacted representatives for both actors, as well as Paramount+, for comment. The first series of MobLand remains available to stream on Paramount+.
