BBC's Iconic TV Centre Hosts 'Winter Hideout' Festive Pop-Up in White City

While London's Christmas market scene is fiercely competitive, a unique festive destination has emerged in West London, offering a more relaxed vibe steeped in broadcasting history. The former BBC Television Centre in White City, opposite Wood Lane Tube station, is hosting a seasonal pop-up called the 'Winter Hideout'.

A Festive Oasis at an Iconic Location

This is the hallowed ground where countless classic British TV shows were produced. The site filmed iconic series such as 'Strictly Come Dancing', 'Doctor Who', 'Match of the Day', and comedy legends like 'Fawlty Towers' and 'Monty Python's Flying Circus'. Although the BBC ceased operations here in 2013, moving most output to Broadcasting House and BBC News to Salford, the building's famous façade and lettering remain a powerful symbol.

The forecourt, traditionally home to a large Christmas tree, has now been transformed. From Tuesdays to Thursdays, it becomes the Winter Hideout, featuring The Broadcaster’s mobile bar. Visitors can enjoy festive cocktails and classic drinks accompanied by a soundtrack of Christmas tunes and contemporary pop music.

Line-Up of Cosy Christmas Events

A full programme of events is scheduled to bring the hideout to life. It kicks off with 'Television Centre Unplugged' on Thursday, December 4, from 5.30pm to 8pm, showcasing live musicians. For those preferring DJ sets, 'Merry Mixmas: Sips, Sounds & Celebrations' will run from 5pm to 8pm on Wednesday, December 3, Thursday, December 11, and Thursday, December 18.

The schedule also includes a cheese and wine tasting session on Wednesday, December 10, at 5.30pm. A classic festive film night is set for 6pm on Wednesday, December 17. To amplify the seasonal spirit, two afternoons of Christmas carols will be held from 1pm to 2pm on Wednesday, December 3, and Wednesday, December 10.

A Lasting Legacy for Londoners

Despite parts of the complex being converted into apartments and offices, the building continues to evoke nostalgia for millions. The Winter Hideout cleverly repurposes this iconic space, allowing the public to celebrate the season in a location that once formed the backdrop of their favourite television moments. It offers a distinctive alternative to the bustling markets, combining festive cheer with a tangible slice of British cultural history.
