Transport for London (TfL) has partnered with accessories company Signare to launch a new collection of bags, wallets, and rucksacks featuring the Piccadilly line's iconic moquette upholstery design. The range, which includes rucksacks, card holders, purses, and make-up bags, celebrates the 120th birthday of the navy blue line.
The accessories are made from a woven material inspired by the Piccadilly line's seat patterns, incorporating TfL's roundel symbol and the famous 'Mind the Gap' phrase. The actual seat fabric on the tube trains remains unchanged.
Where to buy the Piccadilly line collection
The metro-inspired range is available at several London retailers, including the Tower Bridge Gift Shop, London Transport Museum Shop in Covent Garden, Medici Gallery in South Kensington, Giftbox Britain in Whitehall, and two Cool Britannia locations on Buckingham Palace Road and Portobello Road.
This launch comes as plans to update the Piccadilly line's trains, which have been in development since 2018, are expected to be completed next summer. Once the project is finished, passengers will be able to travel in air-conditioned carriages while wearing their matching accessories.
Context and related developments
The Piccadilly line's moquette has long been admired by transport enthusiasts, and this collection allows fans to wear the design. The collaboration follows other London transport milestones, such as the 10th anniversary of the Night Tube and the fact that London now has more cycle lanes than tube lines.
