Marks & Spencer has announced a new fashion collection in partnership with London streetwear label Aries, reviving its retired St Michael label for a 26-piece line-up timed for an autumn wardrobe refresh.
St Michael label returns after cult demand
Aries was founded by Sofia Prantera in 2012 and has become a significant name in streetwear, known for its gothic lettering, religious imagery and cheeky slogans across t-shirts, tracksuits and slip dresses. For this limited-edition collaboration, M&S gave Prantera access to its archive, focusing on reviving St Michael, a clothing label that M&S retired years ago but has built a small, cult following on resale sites like Vinted, Depop and eBay.
According to M&S, demand for vintage St Michael pieces has grown among fashion obsessives on social media, prompting the retailer to bring it back with creative help from Prantera. Across the M&S x Aries range, details include the St Michael crest and its angel motif, plus Penny Bazaar imagery that pays homage to the retailer’s market-stall origins in 1884.
Collection includes knitwear, slip dresses and accessories
The collection features knitwear, suited tailoring, tops, trousers, and other items. Shoppers can expect nighties reworked into slip dresses that can be layered over jeans and under jumpers, pinstripe designs, graphic T-shirts, and a matching cardigan-and-briefs set in cashmere, silk and jersey fabrics. Accessories include a green leather handbag for £90, shaped exactly like the M&S green carrier bag.
Prices start from £10 for a pair of socks or underwear, £25 for a T-shirt, and up to £120 for a silk dress. This is a deliberate choice, given Aries pieces normally cost well over £200 each. The collection is designed to help build a capsule wardrobe with colour, prints and patterns without breaking the bank.
Impact on high-street fashion and resale market
The revival of the St Michael label taps into growing demand for vintage and retro fashion, particularly among younger consumers active on resale platforms. By partnering with a streetwear label known for its cult following, M&S aims to attract a new audience while leveraging nostalgia for its heritage brand. The collection is available now, and M&S expects it to be a major hit, according to the retailer.
