Olly Alexander Champions Trans Rights with Major London Concert

On Wednesday, March 11, 2026, London's OVO Arena Wembley will host Trans Mission, a landmark concert organized by chart-topping pop star and queer activist Olly Alexander. This Live Aid–style event aims to raise both funds and hope for the trans community, featuring performances from prominent artists and special guest appearances.

From Open Letter to Arena Spectacle

The concert originated from an open letter written by Olly Alexander following a Supreme Court ruling that defined men and women strictly by biological sex. Alexander called on fellow artists to condemn this decision and support the trans community. The letter, signed by global stars including Dua Lipa and Charli XCX, has now transformed into a major musical event through collaborations with organizations Not A Phase and The Good Law Project.

"There are many loud anti-trans voices across the media, and we have a government that has rowed back on its commitments to LGBT+ people too," Alexander told Metro. "My hope is that Trans Mission will be a bold statement of unity and solidarity – that we have a voice too, and we're going to use it for something joyful and positive."

Building Cisgender Allyship and Coalition

A key objective of Trans Mission is demonstrating that cisgender people actively care about trans rights. Alexander emphasized that the event moves beyond relying solely on trans individuals to advocate for their community, instead fostering broader coalitions.

"One of our key aims with Trans Mission was to show that cis people care about what's happening," Alexander explained. "Rather than relying solely on trans people to do the work for their community, it's about building a coalition. I'm really happy that we have such a diverse line-up, we have incredible trans talent as well as cisgender people of all different identities."

Star-Studded Lineup and Performances

The concert features an impressive roster of artists and speakers, including:

  • Performances by Sugababes, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, and Adam Lambert
  • Special guest appearances from Sir Ian McKellen, Russell Tovey, and Zack Polanski
  • Drag Race UK winner Tia Kofi among the event speakers
  • Trail-blazing trans musician Tom Rasmussen

Tia Kofi expressed honor at participating, stating: "The onus should not be on trans people or any marginalised group to do the work alone. As allies, it's our duty to help amplify their voices and be present."

Creating Safe Spaces and Addressing Broader Struggles

Kofi highlighted the current difficult climate for trans people, noting how marginalized groups often become targets of false narratives throughout history. "To have an event that creates a safe space full of joy, positivity and uplifting energy is exactly what's needed," she said.

Tom Rasmussen connected trans rights to broader social justice issues: "My rights as a trans person, and therefore as a marginalised person, are linked directly to the rights of refugees who are facing horrific prejudice and violence, and to people in Palestine who continue to live through genocide."

Rasmussen continued: "The marginalised are so often political tools with which wars are waged to keep the powerful powerful. But we aren't pawns – we are people full of love and life and talent and brilliance and minds and hearts, who deserve every right and every protection."

Hope and Historical Impact

For Alexander, the concert represents an opportunity to inspire change through collective action. "I've always believed that change comes down to each and every one of us and how we show up in our communities," he said. "We each have a part to play and any action, big or small, can have a ripple effect that changes the course of history."

Alexander hopes audiences will leave the OVO Arena Wembley "feeling energised and hopeful" after experiencing Trans Mission on March 11, 2026.
